About the LEGO Company and the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY Method

Q: What are the LEGO Company’s involvement with LEGO SERIOUS PLAY today?

A: They produce and sell four brick sets developed specifically for use with the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method and they provide a set of Trademark Guidelines, which everyone involved with or using the method must comply with.
To download the guidelines click here.

Q: Does the LEGO Group still train facilitators?

A: No. The LEGO Group strongly recommends that facilitators take the training.

Q: Are there any trainer of facilitators that are officially appointed and approved by the LEGO Group?

A: No. There are no LEGO Group officially appointed LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® master trainers or trainer of facilitators. There is no LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Training Board or Advisory Boards and there are no LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® partners with a formal or special status or relationship with the LEGO Group. This all was terminated in 2010 with the Creative Commons License.

Q: If there are no LEGO appointed official trainers how can Per and Robert claim to be Master Trainers?

A: We refer to ourselves as Master Trainers in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method, not because we have been appointed by the LEGO Group, but because we historically developed the training programs and for a period of 10 years until 2010 ran all the global facilitator training programs on behalf of the LEGO Group.

About the Association’s Facilitator Training Program

Q: What are the differences between the Association’s facilitator training program and other programs?

A: The Association’s Certification Training is the ONLY program which includes the essential parts of the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method, which are the 4 step Core Process and the seven Application Techniques. Our training curriculum therefore covers the full scope of what the methodology encompasses and can offer.

Q: Why is this the only training program that includes the 4 step Core Process and the seven Application Techniques.

A: These essential parts are NOT included in the LEGO Group’s Creative Commons License, which makes the basics of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® available for common use. The reason is that those concepts were developed by Robert Rasmussen after he left the LEGO Group and therefore exclusively the copyright of the Association. These two concepts are thus included in the curriculum and defined in our facilitator manual.

Q: How can I get a deeper understanding of the differences between the Association’s training program and what is offered by other in the market?

A: By reading the extended FAQ document.

About the rights to use the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY Method after the training

Q: What are my rights for using the documentation and learning outcomes from the training?

A: You are free to use everything you have learned and received for delivering LSP with end-users.

Q: Once I have completed the Foundation Training can I train new facilitators in using the method with end-users?

A: No. The Terms of Use Agreement does not allow you to do that without further evaluation, training and approval provided by the Association.
